German-Speaking Region and Municipalities with Facilities: Language of Documents

RecommendationVerified

Do not automatically apply the 1982 French decree to all of Wallonia. The German-speaking region and municipalities with facilities are governed by the Coordinated Laws of July 18, 1966.

The SPF Employment recalls that the criterion is the operation headquarters to which the worker is assigned. For an establishment in the German-speaking region, the employer uses German for acts and documents intended for staff.

In municipalities with facilities in the Walloon Region, these documents are drafted in French, but the legal basis is federal. The Coordinated Laws entered into force on August 2, 1966. Verify the exact municipality before choosing the contract model; the geographic filter 'wallonie' includes here an area not covered by the French Community decree.
