French Mandatory in Work Relations

Legal obligationVerified

For an operation headquarters in a French-language region, outside municipalities with facilities, prepare work documents in French. Another language can be used in addition.

Article 2 of the Decree of June 30, 1982 requires French in social relations and in acts and documents of the business prescribed by laws and regulations. It allows the supplementary use of a language chosen by the parties and strikes any clause restricting the use of French as null.

Verify the operation headquarters to which the worker is assigned. The 1986 constitutional repeals notably removed the criteria based solely on registered office or sole French expression of the worker and excluded municipalities with facilities from the scope of the decree.

According to article 3, documents contrary to article 2 are null and the judge notes this nullity ex officio. Regularization produces its effects only on delivery of a version compliant with the parties. The text entered into force on September 6, 1982.
