APE: Verify Registration Before Hiring
Since January 1, 2026, APE access is based in principle on four months of registration as a job seeker on the eve of hiring. Exceptions concern notably priority sectors and former APE workers.

For hires under rules that entered into force on January 1, 2026, verify the four months of registration required. Certain situations allow reducing the duration to one day, notably in healthcare, personal assistance, early childhood, culture and education.
Persons who have already worked under APE status benefit from direct access, regardless of sector, subject to residence in Belgium. Use the Le Forem calculator on the eve of hiring and also verify that the employer has the relevant subsidy.
