Welder: scope of ISO 9606-1 qualification
For a steel welding function, verify that the requested qualification corresponds to the job process. ISO 9606-1:2012 remains published; the draft ISO/DIS 9606.2 does not yet constitute its definitive replacement.
ISO 9606-1:2012 defines the qualification test for fusion welding of steels, manual or semi-automatic. It assesses notably the welder's ability to guide the electrode, torch or blowpipe to produce an acceptable weld. It does not apply to fully mechanized or automated processes.
The ISO sheet indicates confirmation of the edition in 2023 and presents the next edition as a draft. In the job posting, specify the qualification corresponding to the work, rather than indiscriminately request certification for any process. Separately verify project or client requirements: the technical sheet does not by itself create a general legal obligation for access to the profession.
