IBO : convention, durée et engagement d’embauche

Legal obligationVerified

IBO rules applicable since January 1, 2026 require a prior agreement and hiring after training. The arrangement also covers eligible Brussels establishments.

Articles 90 to 95 of the Decree of June 5, 2009 require an agreement signed by VDAB, the employer, and the trainee before the start. The candidate must be registered with VDAB; check restrictions concerning previous employment and resignation. The employer declares the IBO in Dimona before its start.

Article 97 sets a duration of 4 to 26 weeks, at least half-time and minimum 17.5 hours per week. The training plan must be approved. According to Article 93, bonus and travel expenses are paid no later than the seventh day of the following month.

Article 107 provides for a permanent contract starting the day after training; a fixed-term contract is allowed if the employer demonstrates to VDAB that it matches their usual hiring policy. The job must match the learned function, with at least the same schedule, and last at least as long as the IBO.
