Non-EU students: residence and weekly limit
RecommendationVerified
A foreign student with a valid residence title granting restricted labour market access can work without a separate authorization request, under conditions. During the school year, the limit is 20 hours per week.
The Flemish page targets foreign students studying in a Belgian establishment and holding a valid residence title. Check the electronic Card A and the arbeidsmarkt – beperkt mention, as well as its validity date, before organizing work.
Work must remain compatible with studies and not exceed 20 hours per week outside school holidays. The 20-hour limit does not apply during school holidays. A student contract offer alone is not sufficient to establish the right to work: keep verifying status and adapt hours to the period concerned.
