AI Act: timeline changed in July 2026
The Commission confirms that the AI Omnibus entered into force on 27 July 2026. Rules for high-risk systems listed in Annex III will apply from 2 December 2027.
The official page, updated on 31 July 2026, distinguishes two deadlines: 2 December 2027 for Annex III systems, including recruitment, and 2 August 2028 for high-risk systems built into Annex I products. Update internal schedules that still use August 2026 for the high-risk obligations of selection tools.
The package also simplifies AI literacy provisions and certain administrative obligations. Avoid reusing guides based solely on the original 2024 version without checking them. Postponing high-risk rules does not suspend the GDPR or the bans on discrimination that apply to recruitment.
