EU Blue Card: recruiting highly qualified workers
Directive 2021/1883 makes it easier to recruit highly qualified workers from third countries. Check qualifications, the offer and the Belgian salary threshold applicable to the place of employment.
The Commission sets out the requirements of the revised scheme, which entered into force on 27 November 2021: a contract or binding offer for at least six months and higher qualifications or accepted professional skills. The salary threshold set nationally is between 1 and 1,6 times the average gross annual salary. This is neither a maximum salary nor a uniform Belgian amount.
Professional experience may be recognised in some cases, particularly in IT. After 12 months in the first Member State, simplified mobility to another Member State is possible. This requires the procedures specified by the host country. When hiring in Belgium, check the permit, regional conditions and threshold in force on the application date before guaranteeing a start date.
