Student contract and light work from age 15
Formalize each student engagement in writing no later than at start of service. Since May 2026, certain 15-year-olds still subject to full-time schooling obligation can perform light work.
A student contract is a fixed-term, individual contract, established in two copies and signed no later than at start of service. It must contain mandatory mentions. The first three actually worked days constitute the trial period. After 12 uninterrupted months with the same employer, ordinary contract rules apply.
Since May 4, 2026, young people age 15 still subject to full-time schooling obligation can be hired only for authorized light work. The list notably includes reception assistance, restocking, sales assistance, and certain light cleaning tasks, without specific training or mechanical equipment. Do not extend this list to all kitchen or service positions; check article 7.15 conditions of the labor law.
