Shortage profession: choose work authorization
Classification as a shortage profession does not exempt from requesting appropriate authorization. Brussels distinguishes work duration and whether or not residing in Belgium.
The official page refers to the shortage professions list published July 1, 2026 and article 14, paragraph 2, 1°, of the May 16, 2024 order. Compare job tasks and position title with this list before using the corresponding economic migration category.
For more than 90 days of work with residence in Belgium, request a single permit. For more than 90 days without residence in Belgium, notably the stated cross-border or remote work case outside Belgium, the page directs to long-duration authorization. Up to 90 days, it directs to short-duration authorization; successive occupations are counted in this calculation.
