Work authorization: submission to single window
Check the applicant’s residence status and category before requesting a Brussels authorization. Since May 4, 2026, applications for non-EU nationals go through the federal single window.
Brussels Economy and Employment offers guidance by situation: highly qualified worker, shortage profession, blue card, trainee, seasonal work, or other case. Use the category actually corresponding to the job and check any exemptions and applicable minimum compensation.
As of May 4, 2026, PDF forms are no longer used and email requests are no longer accepted. If a proxy is involved, the employer and proxy must follow the power of attorney procedure.
A work authorization issued by the Region does not automatically constitute a single permit. The residence decision falls under the Office of Foreign Affairs, per articles 61/25-1 et seq. of the December 15, 1980 law. Holders of special residence status must provide proof of waiver of their privileged status.
